Being a newcomer to this area I was fascinated by the scenic beauty and bird life of Wamberal lagoon. Wamberal lagoon nature reserve is on 139 hectares and the park was created in 1981.
A long time resident Ian Bryant who has lived for over forty years in this area told me that as kids they used to swim in the lagoon and the lake bed was sandy in most areas. He attributes the recent loss of depth and deposits of mud and silt in certain areas of the lagoon to urban development in recent years. We should do our utmost to help protect this beautiful peice of scenery.
